This program, created by Johnathan Harris, collects what people have said about how their feeling on the web, for example ‘I feel happy’, ‘I feel sad’ etc. They are catergorised by location, weather, and trend. With millions of entries, from all over the world, the program would certainly be interesting, but to what point? I think it would be good if you had the choice to only view your friends and familys feelings.

Seesmic is a live video blogging website. The idea is to encourage users to start video conversations using their webcams. I used it for the first time today, didn’t really have alot to say or share, so found it a little strange at first. I think theres potential to use it with friends, as a facebook application or on your iphone. It would probably be a bit difficult to use the website regularly if you weren’t making connections or talking to the same people. Also alot of the conversations are a bit pointless, and random. would be better if there were interesting conversations about specific things. That way you could search for something you like, such as a film, and reply to a conversation about that subject.

Oceanside CaliforniaOceanside, California

This is designed for the world to ‘find out everything and anything about this beautiful city’. Except this website does nothing to help the user believe that Oceanside is actually a beautiful place! Upon entering the site, you are greeted with a ugly splash page, which thanks the user before they have even got to the main page. To actually enter the site you have to click on a spinning flash image of the word ENTER, not only does it look dated, but it doesn’t fit in with the colour scheme, page layout, or the purpose of the whole website. When you finally reach the main page, it doesn’t get much better. More horrible flash images, a long scroll down page, hard to read blue text, and so many links its hard to know where to begin.

From what I can tell, this is supposed to be a news site but rather than it be informative, quick and straight to the point, its confusing, annoying and ultimately pointless, as the user goes away more confused than informed. The user is bombarded with colours, hard to read text, tiny images, poor layout and too many links!

I’m not entirely sure what this website is all about, but entering a site where your greeted with a robotic voice, scrolling flashing images and hard to read graphic texts is not exactly what i’d be pleased to see. The constant flashing and random colour scheme (especially the sickly, luminous green) is so annoying that by the time anyone gets to the main page, the user would probably of had enough and leave the site?

Facebook

Facebook

Facebook is an easy, simple to use method of keeping in touch with friends and relatives. The layout and colour scheme is uncomplicated, making the website specific and straight to the point. Each user has their own home page specific to their friends and events. Adding photos and information about yourself enables the page to become the users own, a virtual representation of themself. With millions of users all over the world, the site provides constant news feeds and updates, so the user always finds the content relevant and up to date.

Radio 1

Radio 1

The radio 1 website creates online access to Radio 1 program content. Pages are categorized into themes and information in line with the programs broadcasted on Radio 1. This makes it easy for users to navigate to the pages they are interested in, for example the ‘Top 40 Singles’ or the ‘News’. The website also offers the user a chance to download the best bits of shows and programs that they might want to catch up on using ‘Podcasts’. The colour scheme and layout is relevant to the youth/young adult target age groups; Bright, refreshing, colourful, inspiring and energetic.

Ark Clothing

Ark Clothing

This online shopping website uses an uncomplicated layout, making browsing and shopping a quick and easy thing to do. Items for sale are categorized by Gender, Items, and Brands. If the user is looking for something specific they can find it almost straight away. Woman’s and Men’s Clothes are completely separated by the colour scheme, using pink for women, and blue for men, making it seem like two completely different sites. Photos load up quickly, with more then one image for each product which means there’s no waiting around to view the product you want to buy. When it comes to buying a product, the website asks only for the information it needs, the user doesn’t feel like they are giving away irrelevant personal information out and therefore trusts the site.
